Why Lakenheath?
Lakenheath is one of 53 communities across England selected to benefit from Sport England’s £250 million national investment to tackle inequalities in physical activity. Our village has been chosen to receive funding, delivered in phases — beginning with gathering feedback and hearing the voice of the community and leading to creating lasting, sustainable change to the activity levels, health and wellbeing of our community.
Our local focus includes:
- Increasing physical activity through everyday movement and community-led events
- Decreasing inactivity by supporting those facing the greatest barriers
- Removing obstacles to participation, including cost, transport, and confidence
- Creating positive experiences for children and young people through play, exploration, and safe spaces
These priorities align with Sport England’s four strategic objectives — helping us build a healthier, more connected village.
Listening, Learning & Co-Creating
Active Lakenheath is shaped by the people who live here. We’re hosting regular community drop-ins, visiting community groups, and inviting residents to complete short surveys — all to better understand what movement looks like in everyday life, and what support would make it easier.
You may have already met our Community Connectors, Jo Chambers and Rich Keeble, out and about in the village. They’re delivering postcards, chatting with residents, and visiting local groups to spark conversations about what matters most. Whether it’s a quick hello or a deeper discussion, Jo and Rich are helping gather ideas, build trust, and make sure every voice is heard.
These conversations are helping us design small-scale pilot projects that reflect real needs and local strengths with the hope of securing full funding to expand what works.
Get Involved
Whether you're a village resident, local business, or community group, we’d love to hear from you. Active Lakenheath is about co-creating solutions that reflect our village’s unique character. Let’s build something brilliant together.
